What is it like to be a Plastic?

a review of the movie "Mean Girls"

Norbert Chyliński, 1st grade

Teenager Cady lived with her parents for 12 years in Africa, where she was home-schooled. Living in the bush, she did not know the typical life of a teenager until her parents decided to return to the USA.

On the first day, Cady knew nothing about the division into groups such as nerds, athletes, national minorities or weirdos. Not knowing anyone, the best option seemed to be having lunch alone in the school bathroom. However, on the second day she met the charismatic Janice and her friend Damian. Under the pretext of taking Cady to class, they went to the playing field, where they introduced her school-ruler "Plastics," namely Regina, Gretchen and Karen - three beautiful and confident girls.

At lunch that same day, Cady had the opportunity to meet Regina in person, helping her overcome an awkward situation with one of the students. Regina invited her to a table, where she sat with Gretchen, and Karen and after a brief deliberation decided that Cady would join their group permanently. They presented her with the rules that prevail at "Plastics" among others that on Wednesdays they only wear pink.

In Cady's first math lesson in front of her sits handsome Aaron, whom she immediately liked. Telling Janice and Damian about him, she learned that he is Regina's ex-boyfriend about whom Regina is still jealous, and having learned that Cady now belongs to the group of the most hated person by Janice and Damian, they devise a plan that will spin Cady's life 180 degrees and make Regina regret her behaviour.

The whole film is pretty addictive and I cannot imagine this being any different for someone else. Some standout moments, aside from the action, were Cady's comments, played by the well-known Lindsay Lohan ("Freaky Friday", "Georgia Rule"), who coped well with this role, playing it naturally and without looking artificial and exaggerated, unlike some actors in teen movies.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone who has not yet seen it, as it has already become a classic. One of the main reasons why I think it is worth watching is its message. One can easily conclude that being "Plastic" does not pay off and, in fact, it is simply better to be yourself.
